A day spent in the city and the vineyards to understand the secrets behind the wines of Bordeaux!
In Bordeaux, the world of wine revolves around producers and négociants (merchants) - 70% of all wines are sold by the latter.
Your day will begin with a walking tour of the Chartrons district, which has been the centre of the wine trade for several centuries. The museum devoted to négociants shows how they came from Northern Europe in the 17th century and contributed greatly to Bordeaux's prosperity. The role of the Port of Bordeaux in exporting wine is also stressed.
After a relaxed lunch at Baud & Millet restaurant, it is time to go to Saint-Emilion or the Médoc (depending on the programme).
Wednesday in Saint-Emilion: the afternoon begins with a visit to the famous medieval town and its underground monuments followed by a tour at an estate including a tasting. The secrets of making fine wine will be explained in detail: terroir, grape varieties, winemaking, barrel ageing, etc.
Saturday in the Médoc: two tours with tasting are planned, one in a family-owned estate and the other one in a château famous for its typical regional architecture.
